Types of Dentures
Essentially, the denture is a detachable replacement for missing teeth as well as nearby tissues. Our dentist at our clinic will help in deciding the denture best suited for you. It all depends on the number of teeth to be replaced plus the costs involved. There are two types of dentures:
- Complete
- Partial
Complete Dentures
It is either conventional or immediate. The conventional dentures are made once the remaining teeth are removed as well as the healing of gum tissues has begun. Usually, a conventional denture will be placed in 8-12 weeks post teeth removal. On the other hand, immediate dentures are developed well in advance. They are placed as soon as the teeth are removed. As a result, you won’t be missing teeth in the healing time.
The disadvantage with the immediate dentures is that the bones and gums shrink over a passage of time following teeth removal. This would lead to adjustments of the dentures post the healing period. Mostly, dentists consider it as a temporary solution till the conventional dentures are ready for placement.
Partial Dentures
Dentures are either developed using a plastic or a metal frame. This will support the teeth that need to be replaced in the dental procedure. The dentures will be held with the support of clasps and rests. To be eligible for dentures, one needs to have some healthy teeth in both the upper and lower parts of the mouth. It’s not just a cosmetic procedure as the chewing and speaking capacity increases with the denture procedure. Also, dentures can stop the other teeth from shifting in the mouth in the near future.
Denture Preparation and Placement
First Visit: The first dental visit centers on the proper examination of gums and soft tissue. At our clinics, you will undertake a complete evaluation including X-rays which is useful in finding out problems associated with the underlying bones. Further, the dentist will initiate the denture process by developing a cast and mold of the upper and lower gums. Also, our specialist will discuss elements of dentures like the shape, shade, and size of the new teeth with you.
Second Visit: The second dental visit is all about finding the new teeth’ length. Plus, we will use loose-fitting dentures and wax to find out the right position of the teeth. This will help in finding out that your bite is perfect so that there is no clicking sound while speaking or chewing.
Third Visit: In the third visit, we will swap the loose denture set with the developed final plastic teeth. Our team will ensure that the base adjusts to the gums while the teeth are in wax. This helps us to understand how the dentures will adjust in terms of size and appearance. This is helpful for the laboratory to design the denture to suit your needs.
Fourth Visit: The final or fourth visit to the dental clinic is all about the placement of dentures. This would help you in eating and speaking like before.
